While working on our Spring Mantle Project this year I had placed everything I made and a few extras that I did not make (3 LED Candles and one cute chick!) onto the mantle. The only problem was it seemed to be lacking 1 bigger or 2 smaller items to finish off the symmetry of the mantle.
Darn! Means I need to craft again He He HA!
So thinking along the theme of Spring I could not help but think of painting a few bird houses that I had stashed away. One of the many things I love about Spring is all the birds we get this time of year and they are all very active building their nests and prepping for their babies. My office window faces the back yard where we have 5 bird feeders, a bird bath, a small container water garden with a fountain that really entices the birds to come in.

First bare wood bird house
My plan now was to keep the same theme going with birds and flowers. I sanded the bird houses and wiped them down. Got my acrylic paints out and decided on one blue and one yellow bird house. Since I had a lavender theme going I decided to paint lavender sprigs on the yellow bird house and paint the trim in lavender to help tie in with the banner, eggs and bunnies.
Second bare wood bird house
I sanded this one as well then I remembered I had a beautiful paper napkin from the Tuesday Morning store. So I painted the bird house blue to also keep with my color scheme and trimmed it in a pretty green. I peeled the top layer of napkin very carefully and cut out one flower and the humming bird. I love humming birds. We have several plants with them specifically in mind to keep them coming back to our yard and 2 humming bird feeders for when the plants are not in bloom.
Once the napkin is separated and trimmed I coated the area where the bird and the flower were going to go with some Mod Podge. Then I carefully placed and smoothed where the bird and flower go. Then painted another light coat of Mod Podge over the bird and flower and then painted a light coat on the rest of the bird house so the finish would match. Once the Mod Podge dried, only 1 hour later I decided to add a small bit of green dry moss under the bird perch and then I cut some moss squares from some flat pressed moss I had on hand and glued it to the roof with my favorite Glue Gun currently – Love no wire in my way!!! I was very pleased with the look.
And the finished Bird Houses
I really love how these turned out. And it was just the last finishing touch to our Spring Mantle project.
